Continuing Education

Guardians ad Litem are required to earn 12 continuing education credits each year in order to remain active. The year period ends June 30 of each year.

  • The Greenville County GAL office sponsors local in-person events throughout the year. Reach out to your supervisor to find out about any upcoming events.
  • The USC Children’s Law Center hosts trainings throughout the year for various personnel whose work involves children’s law and child well-being. Click here to view upcoming training sessions sponsored by the Children’s Law Center, but keep in mind that not all of these will be targeted to volunteer GALs.
  • The S.C. Department of Children’s Advocacy has provided a list of books, movies and television shows that can be used for independent learning options you can utilize at your own convenience to increase your training hours if needed. To receive credit after completing one of these, fill out the Independent Learning Form and email it to Sarah.Schultz@childadvocate.sc.gov and your County Director.

Fostering Great Ideas put together a Zoom discussion series in June 2020 on foster care entitled “How Are the Children”.
